ANTONI MIRANDA (Ciutat de Mallorca, 1960) began playing classical guitar at age 13 and at age 16 he was performing at the Centro de Guitarra in Palma de Mallorca. Later he got interested in jazz and met Salvador Font “Mantequilla”, and Manolo Bolao with whom he worked for several years. Miranda founded different jazz bands among them Brossat and Tentol, as well as acting as a session player on many recording projects. He has been a member of the Big Band of Palma and represented his autonomous community (Baleares) in Muestra Nacional de Jazz 1989.
Miranda was arranger and producer of the album Mallorcatur, and authored the sound track for the television series “Mallorca Màgica”. He played with the group, Jazz Camera Trio which also recorded an album. Miranda has written arrangements for JONDE (Joven Orquesta Nacional de España), as well as for Orquestrina d´Algaida, where he also appeared as guitarist. He recorded his latest album with the latter, titled Di-versions. With the group Sis Som he recorded Fruits de la Terra.
Presently Miranda performs classical repertoire with Jovan Milosevski and teaches at the escuela de música de Calvià and Factoria de so in Santa Maria. Antoni has recently re-joined the Contemporary Grup Ensemble performing in Berlin, Palma and at the Festival de Jazz de Sa Pobla. He has collaborated with the Camerata Sa Nostra along with musicians Ricardo Pla (Irakere), Alex Acuña (Weather Report), Peter Erskine (Steps Ahead, Michael Brecker, Diana Krall), bassist Gary Willis and the Argentine pianist, Lito Vitale. Miranda regularly coordinates the study program at the modern music school Assaig in addition to providing arrangements to different groups and schools around Mallorca.
The Miranda Jazz Quintet is comprised of Miranda on guitar, Roger Machon on tenor sax, Manuel Cuesta on alto sax, Miquel Ferrá on bass and Miquel Navarrete on drums. In 2005 the group was billed with Jorge Pardo in the fiestas de “Sant Sebastià” in Palma and perform educational concerts Coneguem el Jazz organized by “La Caixa”. The group also played the XI Festival de Jazz de Sa Pobla with special guest, trumpeter Sid Gauld and shared the bill with Marcus Miller, Uri Caine and Llibert Fortuny.

Empieza tocando guitarra clásica a los 13 años y a los 16 ofrece conciertos en el “Centro de la Guitarra” de Palma de Mallorca. Mas tarde se interesa por el jazz y conoce a Salvador Font “Mantequilla” y Manolo Bolao, con quien trabaja durante unos años. Fundador de diferentes formaciones jazzísticas como “Brossat” y “Téntol”, colaborador habitual de sesiones discográficas, ha formado parte de la Big Band de Palma y ha representado a su Comunidad Autónoma en la “Muestra Nacional de Jazz” del año 89. Arreglista y productor musical del disco “Mallorcatur” (Reeditado el 2004), autor de la música para la série de televisión “Mallorca mágica”, forma parte del “Jazz Càmera Trio”, con quien ha grabado un disco. Ha hecho arreglos para la “JONDE” (Joven Orquesta Nacional de España) y ha sido arreglista y guitarrista de la ”Orquestrina d´Algaida”, con quien grabó su último disco, “Di-versions”. Con el grupo “Sis Som” ha editado “Fruits de la terra”. Actualmente hace conciertos de guitarra clásica con Jovan Milosevski por diversos paises de Europa y es profesor de guitarra eléctrica en la escuela de música de Calvià y “Factoria de so” de Santa Maria. Cabe resaltar su incorporación en el “Contemporary Grup Ensemble” con quien ha tocado en Berlín, Palma y en el “Festival de Jazz de Sa Pobla” con la colaboración de la “Camerata Sa Nostra”, asi como las actuaciones con los músicos Ricardo Pla (bateria del grupo “Irakere”), Alex Acuña (percusionista del grupo “Weather Report” entre otros), Peter Erskine (bateria de “Steps Ahead”, Michael Brecker, Diana Krall, etc), el bajista Gary Willis y el pianista argentno Lito Vitale. También compagina el trabajo de músico con la confección de arreglos musicales para diferentes entidades de la isla y con la coordinación pedagógica de la escuela de música moderna “Assaig”.
El “Miranda Jazz Quintet” lo componen: Antoni Miranda (guitarra), Roger Machon (saxo tenor), Manuel Cuesta (saxo alto), Miquel Ferrà (contrabajo) y Miguel Navarrete (bateria). En el 2005 han compartido cartel con Jorge Pardo en las fiestas de “Sant Sebastià” de Palma de Mallorca y llevan por todas las islas el concierto pedagógico “Coneguem el Jazz” organizado por la entidad “La Caixa”.
En el “XI Festival de Jazz de sa Pobla” (Mallorca) de 2005, el grupo contó con la colaboración del trompetista Sid Gauld, compartiendo escenario con Marcus Miller, Uri Caine y Llibert Fortuny entre otros.
